Game, Set and Match for Domino on Britvic’s Robinsons Second 'Winbledon' Promotion

Following the success in 2006 of a ‘Winbledon’ Text To Win promotion by Robinsons, Britvic’s leading squash brand, Domino’s A-Series continuous ink jet printers have once again taken centre court at label manufacturer Tipografic.  In preparation for the world’s tennis elite gathering in SW19 for the All England Wimbledon Tennis Championships 2007, the Domino A400 and Editor GT controller are being used by Tipografic to print the special ‘Winbledon’ labels on a sheet fed printing press.

The ‘Winbledon’ promotion features a unique code, printed onto the reverse of specially printed Robinsons squash bottle labels.  Consumers text the eight digit code to see if they have won the chance for their children to play on Wimbledon’s Centre Court.

The key to the success of this promotion is Domino’s cost-effective solution that both generates and manages 60 million unique codes, printing them onto bottle labels of varying sizes, inline, within Tipografic’s existing label production line at its Birkenhead facility.  Repeating last year’s tried and tested formula, nine Domino A400 high speed printers have been installed across a Heidelberg B1 six colour sheet fed press to deliver the unique codes, managed by a Domino Editor GT controller, capable of processing high quantities of variable codes to match Tipografic’s Just In Time (JIT) production output.

“Domino has once again proved the perfect match” said Barry Davidson, Tipografic’s Production Director.  “Despite the production schedule being brought forward by two weeks last year, thanks to Domino we were able to respond well within schedule.  We had no hesitation in choosing to work with them again this year.”

A specially constructed aluminium cradle had to be initially designed, manufactured and fitted to one of the printing decks in order to accommodate the nine A400 printing jets, which were necessary to print a random selection of codes across the sheet.

Davidson adds “We’ve been delighted with the performance, reliability and print quality of the Domino kit, as well as the advice and ongoing technical support of the Domino team.  Furthermore, as a result of last year’s successful print promotion, we have received considerable interest from both new and existing customers to explore other promotional opportunities, which has been a great boost to our business.”

Domino’s A-Series is the world’s best selling continuous ink jet printer and offers a fast, extremely reliable and high quality printing solution that integrates seamlessly into new and existing production equipment.   The Editor GT is a sophisticated ink jet Windows-based controller package offering total control of printing operations, including the management of variable data and unique codes.
