Digital printing is a fast-moving sector: technical innovations, a demand for flexible technologies and a need to minimise manning requirements change the industry dynamics. That’s why we develop progressive technology that pushes the industry forward and there’s no better way to demonstrate that than showcasing at events.
Domino descends on Lucerne to launch the K630i book block solution
Back in February this year in the beautiful Swiss city of Lucerne, we took our place among the industry’s finest at Hunkeler Innovationdays for the official launch of our brand-new book block solution: the K630i. Over the four-day event, at least 6,000 visitors from over 50 countries travelled to Lucerne to witness all the latest from the digital printing and finishing world. Our K630i is a digital ink jet production printer capable of incredible speeds, tailor-made for the demands of the book printing, transactional and direct mail sectors.
Book printing on trend
Domino’s Digital Printing Solutions Director Philip Easton was one of those in attendance. Noticing an upswing in commercial printed direct mail at the show, he commented that there was a high demand for “glossy, high coverage work and a huge interest in book printing.”
The K630i meets that demand head-on, which is why it attracted such interest from representatives of the book industry. Its advantages in high-speed book block and booklet printing were demonstrated live on the exhibition floor. Unrivalled rich black ink quality? Check. Low carbon footprint? Check. High productivity at variable print speeds? Check.
The K630i is already winning awards
The K630i scooped the gong in the Book Printing Solution category at the prestigious European Digital Press (EDP) Association Awards. (We will put it on the mantelpiece next to last year’s award for our N610i digital label press.) In doing so we headed off competition like Kodak.
Maybe it’s the fact that the K630i provides near-photo quality results (600 dpi) at speeds of up to 150 metres per minute. Or perhaps it’s because the single engine duplex increases production floor space by at least 50% compared to twin engine devices. Or it could be the fact that the K630i is so easy to integrate with existing web processing and finishing equipment.
There’s no doubt that the K630i is a special machine - the prestigious awards, which attracted more than 150 submissions, recognise innovation and quality in digital print.
In come the orders...
Back in the summer of 2016 - before the official launch - Ashford Colour Press Ltd became the first UK book publisher to place an order for the K630i. With a 30-year heritage in global publishing, not to mention a £13 million turnover, it was a significant vote of confidence in our new block book printing technology. Since then we’ve received an order from one of the biggest publishing houses in Europe!
Long may it continue.
Within the book printing sector, there is a demand for flexible technology that not only facilitates high production output and is geared for rapid job change, but also minimises manning requirements and material waste. The compact size and small footprint of the Domino K630i press gives it the required flexibility and modularity to be easily integrated into existing web processing and finishing equipment, whilst its variable production speeds of up to 150m/min meets the high productivity required for printing in the book sector.
