JOB PURPOSE - Product Specialist
A technical, hands on role, advising Sales Channels, Distributors and Product Managers of best practise regarding installation, networking and consumable usage in the production environments of end users. 

 Lead process improvements to maximise functional effectiveness and work with OEMs to define requirements such as communications protocol changes. 

 Provide global onsite assistance (occasional international travel required) to support best practice integration between our printers and OEM equipment. 

 Initial focus will be on thermal inkjet (TIJ), later to incorporate continuous inkjet and (CIJ) and Piezo inkjet (PIJ). 

KEY TASKS / ACCOUNTABILITIES

Pre-Sales support 

  • Share application knowledge globally - assisting channels / subsidiaries to help drivegrowth 

  • Provide support to BDM’s for the distribution channels. Visit OEMs/Channel/ customer to train and advise best practise  

  • Respond to pre-sales queries and scope complex applications for the channels 

  • Provide representative print samples and reports 

  • Improve and define samples and testing processes 

  • Create and maintain samples database for global channel reference 

  • Evaluate applications - substrate, speed and installation criteria  

  • On site application evaluation, demonstration and trial support 

  • Advise on how to best integrate Domino printers into customer environments based on e.g. published communication interfaces  

  • Review and test specific customer integration scenarios – typically involving basic networking, I/O and text-based protocol knowledge 

  • Support established PLC protocols e.g. EtherCAT, EthernetIP, ProfiNET 

  • Interface with Software Development and Product Management to define and plan integration requirements for printers, based on customer feedback 

 

Development and delivery of training and support material 

  • Help create and maintain a catalogue of application profiles 

  • Help create installation and set-up training for engineers 

  • Help create online support and training material 

  • Provide training on the software/ protocol communications 

 

Development Evaluation 

  • Create technical specifications and work closely with Development teams to deliver product developments 

  • Help evaluate new product developments and application suitability  

  • Share industry knowledge across multiple sectors

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

BTEC in engineering, software, a similar subject or equivalent experience 

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience in creating and delivering technical training materials 

  • Understanding of PLCs and communications protocols e.g. EtherCAT, EthernetIP,ProfiNET 

  • Experience of working with ‘Agile’ development methodology 

  • Knowledge of network architecture 

  • Understanding of software code (desirable) 

  • Relevant experience (designing, maintaining, servicing or installation) of technical equipment 

  • Knowledge of TIJ or other industrial coding technologies (desirable) 

  • Knowledge of life sciences industry (desirable) 

SKILLS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
