For food and beverage manufacturers, packaging is crucial. Once your product reaches the shop shelf, the packaging shoulders the responsibility of attracting customers and distinguishing your product from other brands.

Quality counts. And for packaging that leaps off the shelf, an increasing number of manufacturers are turning to MPS Bristol.

Introducing MPS Bristol...

Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS) is a global business that provides packaging solutions for the branded and healthcare markets. MPS Bristol specialises in manufacturing packaging for branded products. They excel in markets where print and packaging is integral to brand identity. In search of an enhanced label offering, MPS Bristol became the first business in the UK to install Domino’s N610i 7-colour UV digital ink jet label press and it has already proven to be a key asset for some of their more creative designs.

MPS raises a glass to prestigious award

It’s encouraging when quality is recognised and so is the case for MPS Bristol. They recently received a coveted Digital Printer Award in the ‘Creative Use of Substrates’ category. The award-winning item was a self-adhesive beer label for Redwell, a craft brewer based in Norwich, who called on MPS to create a label with a premium appearance that would also appeal to young adults.

The N610i made it easy for MPS to deliver on this brief. And being digital, –makes it the ideal technology to use for hand crafted beers, such as Redwell, that are usually only produced in small batches.

New label press, new clients

MPS Bristol installed the N610i in May 2015. In just six months it has helped them win over 40 new accounts primarily from the drinks and personal care sectors. Some of these jobs were previously screen printed and have been secured due to Domino’s highly opaque white ink, which delivers a silk-screen like finish that’s ideal for printing onto clear and metallic substrates.

“We have a specific customer with over 1000 SKUs, whose product labels were previously flexo printed on a quarterly basis for despatch as and when needed. This job is now being digitally printed on the N610i on a weekly basis. This means shorter print runs, shorter lead times, no plate making, less waste, and better stock control with less inventory and reduced storage costs.” Andy Walter, Managing Director, MPS Bristol

What makes the N610i so good?

MPS is happy with their decision to purchase the Domino N610i. It delivers the highest digital productivity, the best digital UV ink jet quality and the most consistent print results on the market. The huge colour range offers fantastic vibrancy on a wide range of substrates. And its operational speed (up to 75m/min) means labour costs go down, while productivity soars. MPS Bristol is now using the new digital press to challenge designers, brand managers and marketers to push the boundaries and build personalisation, variable data and more focused promotional offers into their clients’ labels.

“In addition to the broad colour range required by our customers, productivity was another key factor for us, as was the requirement for a ‘robust’ technology to compete with flexo and screen. To date, we have matched all the colours required by our ‘branded products’ market – the N610i has an extensive colour gamut on a good range of substrates. In terms of its productivity, we are currently running the N610i at 50m/min. The labels are printed so fast, we need additional finishing capability to keep up with it!” Andy Walter, Managing Director, MPS Bristol
