High-performance model completes new line-up of flexible, robust i-Tech intelligent Technology lasers
A major milestone in Domino’s scribing laser programme will be passed at interpack 2011, with the first showing of the 60 watt D620i. The company’s most powerful scribing laser yet, the D620i is the culmination of an intensive development drive that has already produced the 10 watt D120i and the 30 watt D320i.
The new model offers market-leading speed and is up to 30% faster than Domino’s previous nearest equivalent, which will be welcomed by users facing the challenge of applying increased levels of variable data at high line speeds. The speed boost derives largely from the combination of increased laser power and Domino’s new i-Tech 10 scan head, designed specifically for use with the D620i, which optimises mirror and scan head control. The result is a beam with higher energy density, for faster and more intense marking.
The increased power and speed of the D620i combined with an optional IP65-rated version, results in a system that is equal to the most demanding applications and environments – including those in high speed beverage packaging.
The D620i offers a new high-speed option, RapidScan – now available across the D-Series i-Tech range. This allows users to achieve 20% greater throughput by optimising the configuration of the mark field. Accordingly, products can be tracked for longer, increasing the time available for marking at higher line speeds. In addition, the higher energy density that can be achieved produces better marking quality on more challenging substrates or for scribing complex code information, including accurate reproduction of small 2D codes.
The D-Series is recognised as a high-performance, high-quality solution for applying variable alphanumeric text, graphics and 2D Data matrix codes onto plastic, glass, paper and cartons. These credentials are enhanced by the integration of Domino’s i-Tech intelligent Technology principles, which make for easier installation and increased efficiency by allowing users to work smarter.
Despite its power, each component of the modular system is remarkably compact, making for easy integration on host machines. The scan head, which is connected to the laser tube on a multi-position mount, can be rotated through 90-degree steps, and integral full-length mounting rails on both sides of the laser module provide simple, easy installation.
The new robust design of the D-Series increases protection for all components, which in turn enhances reliability. IP65 rating is available as an option across the range and for the pharma sector, GAMP- and 21-CFR part 11 models are offered. The controller has minimal moving parts and can be located beneath the production line, away from the laser, or rack mounted to save space and reduce the likelihood of accidental damage.
The new lasers meet users’ increasing demands for products that follow sound environmental practices. The D120i and D320i are smaller and 20% lighter than their respective predecessors, which translates into reduced transport costs, and all models feature automatic temperature-controlled fan cooling to save energy whenever possible.
All models are simple and flexible to operate. Operators can manage the coder using Domino’s intuitive remote TouchPanel, or via a web-based interface running on any industrial PC. For ultimate flexibility, the new D-Series can also be controlled through customers’ production line interfaces.
To speed job set-up, message changes are instantly updated in the system, and production data can be uploaded or downloaded from the controller either via USB or an Ethernet network.
