Who are Brandt?

Leading food manufacturers in Germany for over a hundred years, Brandt produce savoury snacks, confectionary and rusks. Six million rusks a day in fact, with an enviable 80% market share. If you grew up in Germany, chances are you’ve eaten a Brandt rusk. For the lucrative but demanding seasonal market, they produce a range of incredibly popular hollow chocolate Santas at Christmas and bunnies for Easter.

What was Brandt’s challenge?

Having switched the packaging material from paper to plastic labels on their chocolate figure range, the change rendered obsolete their hotstamp method for printing batch codes and best before dates. New coding technology was required that could not only handle the new labels but also their traditional packaging, such as bags of confectionary. The variant styles of packaging required a streamline coding system – a one-size-fits-all approach to labelling and coding.

How did Domino help?

Given the obstacle of providing an efficient response to Brandt’s multi-coding quandary, Domino supplied the v230i Thermal Transfer Overprinter alongside the installation of 11 units on their labelling machines and vertical form, fill and seal bagging machines.

“It was very important to us that the new systems were intuitive to operate and provided high-quality coding with low consumable costs. We also needed a standard ribbon type for the labelling machine and form, fill and seal applications. The Domino V230i TTO printers impressed us in all these areas”

-Thomas Huber, Plant Manager, Brandt Shokoladen, GmbH + KG

The v230i boasts i-Tech intelligent Technology which features a user-friendly TouchPad with QuickDesign user interface. It makes for an impressively smooth operation that doesn’t eat away at production time. Producing high quality results at lower consumable cost thanks to the standard ribbon and economy function more than satisfied the Brandt’s fast-moving packaging demands.

What was the outcome?

Intuitive? High quality? Low cost? Standard ribbon type? Brandt found exactly what they were after by utilising the flexibility of their new V-Series coding system. Being able to streamline their coding at a faster pace whilst lowering their consumable costs across a variant range of packaging types and labels, Domino identified and solved Brand’s production needs with aplomb.
