About the role
As an Advanced Analytical Chemistry Apprentice, you will combine a Level 6 apprenticeship with hands-on experience in a highly accomplished and diverse inkjet printing R&D team. Working alongside experienced scientists in a stimulating and collaborative research environment, you will develop strong analytical chemistry expertise while contributing to real-world innovation. You will work closely with R&D scientists across multiple disciplines, including Analytical Chemistry, Advanced Technology, and Product Development, gaining insight into how analytical science underpins the development of high-performance, sustainable ink systems.


The role has a strong analytical focus, while also offering opportunities to gain experience across other innovative teams within R&D, including fluid development and fluid support. You’ll play an active role in supporting research and development activities, including: contributing to the development of the next generation of sustainability-embedded printable ink products by applying advanced analytical chemistry to investigate systems at the molecular level.
You'll support
 the development of the technology blocks that underpin stable ink formulations, considering raw materials, printers, and substrates as part of an integrated system.
  • Advancing ink testing capabilities within our analytical chemistry laboratories.
  • Identifying and exploiting synergies between chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, and rheology to deliver high-quality, actionable analytical results.
  • Play an active role in the transformation of our laboratories to incorporate robotics and automation as well as the use the artificial intelligence in your day-to-day analytical activities.

About you
  • At least five GCSE passes or equivalent (including Maths, English Language) (Grade A*-C/9-4) Essential
  • At least two subjects at A Level or equivalent (including Chemistry), or demonstrable equivalent learning or experience.
  • Good communication skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Good analytical skills
  • Inquisitive mind and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team and motivated to balance academic study with hands-on work.
