Developed in collaboration with OEMs and end-users alike, Domino welcomes the future of thermal Inkjet (TIJ) printing with the brand new Gx-Series coding range.

Manufacturers continue to select Domino's solutions for speed, high-quality, and versatility, and the Gx-Series builds on all the key strengths of its predecessor but offers improved interfacing and user experience, full multi-language support, and seamless integration with Industry 4.0 solutions.

In fast-paced industries, businesses can experience high revenue losses with machinery downtime, but our connected, automated, and remotely monitored printing solutions can substantially mitigate this risk.

Let's take a look at some of the industries and applications where the Gx-Series is best positioned.

Food Packaging: from wrapper to box

Our thermal Inkjet printers can take the rigorous demands of food manufacturing production lines, where clarity and flexibility in often challenging cold, wet or dusty environments are key and a variety of food packaging safe ink options are critical—all of which the Gx-Series ranges offers comfortably.

Efficiency must be maintained, and printers must have the functionality to code a variety of code formats, including variable data, alphanumeric text, graphics, logos, QR codes and 2D data matrices onto a wide range of substrates at speed.

The Domino Gx150i and Gx350i multi print head capability enables controlling up to four print heads for increased message height or individual printing on different print positions. They are fully compatible with Industry 4.0 standards using the Domino Cloud, which allows for remote monitoring and interaction, better packaging and processing systems’ management.

Our printing specialists have developed water and ethanol-based inks which are fast drying and fully-certified for the use of printing in a food manufacturing environment. Where traceability is critical, the readability of the codes must be maintained. Our thermal inkjet printing inks adhere to a wide variety of substrates, creating a scratch and smudge-resistant mark which is capable of withstanding product transport and handling.

Pharmaceutical Packaging: serialisation as standard

The pharmaceutical industry is demanding manufacturers comply with strict traceability and legal requirements where each bottle and pack of prescribed medication must carry its own unique machine-readable code. Accuracy is crucial on pharmaceutical production lines, and any reduction in throughput can have a significant impact on revenues.

Domino's Gx-Series range of thermal inkjet printers are suitable to item level serialisation —this includes the 1D and 2D code formats necessary to comply with pharmaceutical regulations (EU FMD, US DQSA, Russian crypto codes) according to GS1 standards. These can also be included in a 21 CFR Part 11 validated system.

Similarly, to food manufacturing, the pharmaceutical industry demands razor-sharp coding clarity with rapid drying times. But in addition, code readability (at least grade C at any check) needs to be ensured from point of production until dispensed to the end customer. Domino has developed a lightfast regulation-compliant ink which dries in around half a second, typically delivering grade A MRCs. Pharmaceutical products are marked with a high-contrast, scratch-resistant code that lasts their lifespans, therefore minimising the risk of false rejects on machine vision systems.

The Domino Gx-OEM printer option is optimised for seamless integration with packaging machinery control cabinets. Connecting up to four print heads that can be individually configured.  It is a highly flexible solution ideal for serialisation and track & trace.

Electronics: thermal inkjet coding at speed in graphic quality

Requirements to apply production data and traceability codes on electronic components are on the rise. When it comes to small, tough electronic components such as batteries, codes must be accurate and durable, while also being cost-effective without compromising on quality.

The Domino Gx-Series thermal inkjet range can code a wide variety of substrates like nylon, plastics, metal enabling to code e.g. batteries, LCDs and PCBs, using solvent-based inks which are quick-drying, adhere well, are high in contrast and are heat resistant. Domino inks are designed to withstand harsh post-print processes that the substrate may experience further down the production lines.

A portfolio of Domino inks

Our water and ethanol-based inks have been developed by a dedicated team of specialists who analyse substrates based on their composition. They must experience a rigorous product development process to ensure quality, reliability and compliance before we take them to market.

The Domino Gx-Series functions with an extensive range of inks, enabling our customers to find a perfect fit for their industry, substrate and requirements.

Our water-based inks are suitable for high-speed, serialised pharmaceutical production lines, food applications such as sandwich cartons, egg boxes and convenience food packaging, and outer case packaging. And our solvent-based inks are ideal for high-speed flexible film lines, blister coding for pharmaceutical production lines, metals for LCDs, and more.

For many legislative or substrate demands, Domino’s trusted Gx-Series thermal inkjet printer with its range of inks offers a versatile and flexible solution, which is compatible with Industry 4.0 standards using the Domino Cloud.
