Emballage Gruppen, the second largest producer of folded cartons in Denmark, and Dan Labels, the specialist labels producer within the Group, came on to the Domino stand at Labelexpo 2017 last week to watch the demonstration of the 7 colour UV inkjet Domino N610i/ABG hybrid solution in action, and left the stand as the proud new owners of the exhibit.

The company, which was founded in 1987, now employs 130 staff who work across two sites in Vejle with a total capacity of 16,000m². Emballage Gruppen is owned by the family run Good Food Group who have been established since 1976 and had a turnover of 1500 million Krone in 2016.

Emballage Gruppen is recognised as being a market leader in the production of all kinds of carton packaging and self-adhesive labels for the food and beverage, non-food, industrial and pharmaceutical sectors and has a large international customer base.

Using a range of printing technologies, Dan Labels offers a comprehensive selection of labeling solutions to its client base including printing self-adhesive product labels, variable data labels, RFID labels and multi-layer and neutral labels.

Mr OtTO Christensen, Chairman of the Group explains what prompted the business to start looking at digital printing technology, “We recognised that we needed more capacity and flexibility to cope with increased customer demand for shorter print runs and reduced lead times. It was no longer economical to run these jobs on flexo presses, and so we started to evaluate the digital alternatives.”

After conducting a thorough review of the different printing technologies available over several years, and after witnessing them again in action at Labelexpo 2017, the organisation has decided that a modular Domino N610i digital inkjet hybrid system provides the best solution for their business needs, both now, and for the future.

The chosen system is comprised of a 7 colour Domino N610i Integration module10i integration module utilising Domino’s new UV90 ink set integrated with an AB Graphics Digicon 3 and a turret rewinder with automated core size changes. This will allow Emballage Gruppen the flexibility to produce high quality, complex labels combining UV flexo and UV inkjet printing, which can also be varnished, laminated, die-cut, inspected and dispatched all in one single, highly efficient process. Each output reel can be programmed to the exact number of labels specified by the customer.

Mr Otto Christensen concludes: “This investment represents our first step into digital hybrid printing. We have been particularly impressed with the print quality, high productivity and cost-effective production costs of the Domino N610i integration module. The unique ‘web reverse’ function, which minimises the amount of waste produced to just 2-3 metres even with a job, die cut or media change, was another contributory factor in our decision to select this hybrid solution.”

Mr Eric White, Business Development Manager for Domino Digital printing solutions Nordic Region said, “Domino is delighted that Emballage Gruppen and Dan Labels have chosen this digital inkjet hybrid solution. It will enable them to differentiate themselves with a broad range of creative applications, which will capture the imagination of their customers in all sectors of the label market. We are confident that this will be the start of a long and fruitful partnership with them.”
