Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) has introduced silver ink 2SV801, a new addition to its Ax-Series ink range designed to simplify cable and wire identification while reducing downtime and inventory complexity for manufacturers.
Cable and wire manufacturers often produce a mix of cable colours and therefore keep both black and white inks on site to maintain clear cable markers and legible codes. Changeovers between these inks bring the usual interruptions: line stoppages, changeover checks, and the risk of smudging as printing restarts. Printed codes also face harsh conditions, including high extrusion temperatures, rapid cooling, and prolonged exposure to light, which can cause fading if inks lack durability.
Silver ink 2SV801 addresses these challenges, delivering high-contrast coding on both light and dark substrates, enabling cable and wire manufacturers to use a single ink for diverse production needs. The formulation dries in one to two seconds for uninterrupted high-speed printing, resists transfer during cooling processes, and adheres reliably to PVC, halogen-free and recycled halogen-free cables, a variety of thermoplastics, electrical cable types, and metal surfaces. With a Blue Wool Scale lightfastness rating of 7–8, it also supports print durability for longer ink lifecycles on cables that are stored or used outdoors.
The ink contains no heavy metals and meets environmental and packaging standards, including both the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive and the Model Toxics in Packaging Legislation (formerly known as CONEG). This supports maintaining compliance in cable manufacturing while reducing ink inventories – aligning with lean manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Arianne New, Product Manager – Fluids, Domino, commented: “Customers have long requested an ink that can print on both light and dark cables. Domino now has a solution available in the form of silver ink 2SV801, which has demonstrated reliable adhesion even on recycled halogen-free cables. Field trials confirm consistent legibility across a wide range of cable colours, giving manufacturers the stability they need to maintain clear cable identification during production.”
Silver ink 2SV801 is fully compatible with Domino’s Ax350i extrusion coder, capable of high-speed, small character printing on wires, achieving over 150 prints per second for wire numbering tasks. It can be integrated with Domino’s coding automation and vision systems, supporting manufacturers seeking tighter process control.
