Ax-Series - How to Clean an i-Pulse Print Head

Safety Note

WARNING

CAUTION

Ink Viscosity Hazard. Risk of Going Out of Printer Operating Limits.

Switch off the printer before starting this procedure.

If the printer is running when this procedure is done, wash fluid may be sucked into the ink system through the gutter. This may cause the viscosity of the ink to become too thin.

NOTE	Cleaning intervals may vary, depending on the ink type and installation environment. Do not let dirt and ink collect on the deflector plates, charge electrode slot, or gutter tube. It is a recommendation to check the print head once a week, and clean it if necessary.

TOOLS

Required tools and equipment: T6 torx driver, lint free tissue, and wash.
- The correct wash type is listed on the printer's internal configuration label.

Step 1

Disconnect Printer from Power

If the printer is on, press and hold the button for 2 seconds and wait for the printer to shut down.
Disconnect the power lead from the rear of the printer.

Step 2

Clean Print Head

At the print head, remove the holster by pressing in the two holster retaining clips on the sides of the print head.
Remove the internal cover by gently squeezing in the sides to release the clips and lifting the lower part away from the print head and gently pulling downwards.

Follow the annotated instructions in the following illustration.

	2	Clean any ink residue from deflector plates.
	3	Clean any ink residue from gutter area.

Step 3

Reassemble Print Head

Replace the charge electrode.
Replace the print head holster.
